Club awarded Silver CAPS for 2008

Cumberland Netball Club has been awarded a Silver CAPS and Clubmark Award on 24 March 2008.

The award entitles the Club to use the logos on club material as a kitemark symbolising Cumberland Netball as a child-friendly and developmental club.

A special thank you to Andrea Johnson and Kirsty Smith for all their hard work in submitting our entry. The judges commented that Cumberland submitted the best Action Plan they'd seen, that it was a great application and that we have a great website.

South African School Team Tournament, 9 April 2008

South African School Team Tournament - 9 April 2008, from 7-8pm

Cumberland is proud to be hosting 2 x U.19 teams from South Africa’s Randburg High School at training on the 9th of April. A top 10 school for netball, the two teams will be playing a round-robin tournament against Cumberland Netball Club's B, C and D teams.

Cumberland host Under 12s and 14s tournament

Young netball talent from across North London congregated at Camden Sports Pitch on Wednesday 5th March for what was to be a nail-biting tournament. Organised by Cumberland Netball Club, the tournament was for Under 12s and Under 14s. England netballer Chioma Ezeogu who led a warm up game of stuck-in-the-mud, described this event as:

Gordon Brown wants netball at the London Olympics

According to a recent article in the Mirror newspaper, Prime Minister Gordon Brown wants netball played at the 2012 London Olympics to entice more women and girls into sport.

Cumberland and the Talent Pathway

In parallel with the Senior Competition Structure a new U19 Netball Talent League (NTL) has been introduced in line with the 8 franchised Superleague teams. This NTL provides netballers aged 14-19 to experience high pressure games on a weekly basis throughout the year.

A squad of 20 athletes have been selected primarily from the Athletes attending the Regional Talent Development Programme.

Congratulations to Natalie Ekweogwu (Cumberland B) having been selected for the RTDP 2007/2008.

Cumberland conjure up weekend double

Back-to-back wins at the weekend helped the championship-chasing Cumberland reinforce their double title charge.

The Camden-based side faced an energet­ic Hyde Park team in the Premier Division of the Middlesex League on Saturday at Broomfield Park.

The match was hanging in the balance at half-time with both teams locked on 17 goals apiece. Player of the match Polini Langi and the introduction of Lois Tucker inspired Cumberland to a hard-fought 41-26 goal victory. Cumberland won again on Sunday when they beat Palmer’s Green in the first division of the POLY League.

England wing-attack Chioma Ezeogu will do a training session and warm-up with all the teams. Chioma will also answer questions, give advice to budding netballers and sign balls and shirts for the attendees.

There will also be a a teacher shoot-out competition.

PLAYER of the match Alicia Cross signed off in style on Saturday when she led Cumberland to a convincing victory over Oakwood in the Premier Division of the Middlesex League.

One of the club’s star players over the last few seasons, Alicia showed off her shooting skills one last time before she prepares to return to her homeland of Australia.

Unbeaten Cumberland Net Victory

Players from Cumberland Netball Club were jumping for joy on Saturday when they sealed a narrow 39-33 goal victory over Academy to con­tinue their unbeaten run in the POLY League.

The Camden-based side were determined to beat their title rivals and assert their position at the top of the table. After a tentative start the teams were neck and neck at both quarter and half- time, with Cumberland just on top with only a one goal lead going into the third quarter.
